Anya Beyersdorf is an actress turned writer/director. As an emerging and talented screenwriter, she has been an Academy (The Oscars) Nicholl Fellowships semi-finalist (2016), been shortlisted twice for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab (2016, 2017) and won an Australian Writer’s Guild (AWGIE) Award for her writing (2014).
Anya is currently writing feature film HUCKSTEPP – an original true story biopic on the life of Sallie-Anne Huckstepp for producers Jan Chapman and Nash Edgerton of Blue Tongue Films, with support from Screen NSW and Screen Australia.
Anya is also currently adapting Charlotte Wood’s celebrated feminist horror masterpiece “The Natural Way of Things” for the screen for executive producer Sue Maslin and producers Katia Nizic and Emma Dockery of Generator pictures.
Her original feature film screenplay SERPENTINE (Nicholl Semi-finalist 2016) is in development in the US, to shoot first quarter 2019.
For TV, Anya is currently developing a 10 x 30 episode dramedy series for Made Up Stories (producers Jodi Matterson and Bruna Papandrea) and was one of the successful writing teams selected by Screen NSW and the ABC to develop her 1 hour “Cli-fi” anthology episode – LOOK FOR THE HELPERS.
In 2016 she was selected by The Weinstein Company and won the highly competitive inaugural Lexus Australia Short Film Fellowships to write and direct a new short film, HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2017 and has also now screened in NZ, Montreal and several other countries.
Anya’s other films have screened in competition at Flickerfest, Palm Springs International Shorts Fest, Rhode Island Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and the Tropfest shortlist among others.
